🌱 Horticulture Class Highlights! 🌱
Our students have been busy exploring the fascinating world of plants! Here's a sneak peek at what we've been learning lately:
✨ Propagation Techniques: Students learned how to propagate plants using stem and leaf cuttings, as well as division.
🌸 Flower Power: We studied the parts of a flower and how seeds develop through pollination.
🌱 Seed Dissection: Students got hands-on with seed dissection to explore the anatomy of seeds.
🌿 Microgreens in Action: We planted, germinated, and even tasted our own microgreens!
🚀 NASA Collaboration: Our class set up an exciting experiment with NASA to test how light affects plant growth, and we’re even trialing plants that could grow on the International Space Station!
☀️ Plant Processes: From photosynthesis to transpiration, students learned how plants use light to fuel essential growth processes.
We’re so proud of our budding horticulturists! 🌻 Stay tuned for more plant science adventures! 🌿👩🌾👨🌾

Floral Design students had a hands-on learning experience with both joyful and somber floral arrangements! They’ve explored the delicate art of creating flower crowns and bud vases, which are often used in weddings, showcasing their skills in designing pieces that celebrate love and unity. At the same time, they learned how to create arrangements for more somber occasions, like a funeral. The funeral for Tom the turkey, held before Thanksgiving, was a creative and memorable way for students to understand the emotional depth and symbolic nature of floral design for loss. It’s great that they had the opportunity to practice arranging flowers for such diverse events, as it helps them develop a well-rounded understanding of the craft. #4theT #LetsGrowTogether
The Agribusiness Management and Leadership class learned how to identify issues in agriculture, research the history, pros, and cons, and developed a skit presentation to represent agribusiness members who the issue would have an impact on. Groups also created a podcast and a customer interaction skit on issues around agritourism, the livestock industry, urbanization, and wildlife.
Students also took a field trip to ABAC to meet with faculty members in the School of Agriculture and Natural Resources. Students learned about majors in forest and wildlife while visiting the school natural study area. We then learned how to teach and communicate through a simulation of tractor driving with the agricultural education and communication faculty members. Students visited the beef teaching unit and learned about cattle identification through freeze branding. Finally, we visited with faculty members in crop and soil science where students practiced identification and were able to make a soil profile to test soil saturation. Thank you to all of the faculty we visited with who gave our students a hands-on view of the majors offered. #4theT #LetsGrowTogether
