Update
After consulting with our EMA, Georgia Power and Colquitt EMC, there are approximately 17,000 customers in Tift County without power at this time, this includes one of our campuses. Due to these circumstances, school will be canceled on Thursday, August 31st. We encourage everyone to use good judgment and remain safe when driving. Please keep the counties south of us in your thoughts as they saw a greater impact from the storm than we did. We will continue to assess the situation and will notify everyone of a decision regarding school on Friday, September 1st as soon as possible. #4theT

After meeting with EMA and City and County Officials and out of an abundance of caution, the decision has been made to close Tift County Schools on Wednesday, August 30th for all students and employees. It is unsafe to operate buses when sustained wind speeds are in excess of 35 - 40 mph. We have been informed that there is a 50% chance of sustained winds of over 40 mph. They anticipate that the storm could move further west which would increase the likelihood of us receiving these winds. We will continue to monitor the situation throughout the day on Wednesday and make a decision regarding any possible closure on Thursday, August 31st at that time. Activities scheduled for tonight will continue as planned, unless otherwise posted. All activities for tomorrow have been canceled. #4theT
